The mission of the Somali Documentary Project is to use photography and writing to document the worldwide Somali Diaspora, while Somali people are still in the process of migration. In the history of human movement, no other migration has ever been documented while still in progress. The reasons to record the glory and the pain of Somali migration is first of all to provide Somali people with a record of this important moment in their history. Secondly, we hope to educate hosting cultures throughout the world, and thirdly we would like to draw the world’s attention to the horrible plight of Somalia and the fate of the people who are forced to leave their homeland.
